CompanyAs a company, we have a responsibility to compensate our climate impact. We aim to become a carbon-neutral company and are proud to say we’re nearly there. At IG&H, we like to roll up our sleeves. So, we started planting a forest on Life Terra in Portugal. This year, we fully offset our 2018 and 2019 carbon footprint by planting 25 acres. As continuity is key, we will plant 25 acres a year in the next three years, which adds up to a total of 100 acres of forest. We expect that this will fully offset our 2018 to 2025 footprint. And it doesn’t stop there. We’ve initiated a range of other initiatives: solar panels, vegetarian lunches, and energy-friendly offices, as well as encouraging the use of electric cars, public transportation, and bikes. Pro-bono workWe regularly take on pro-bono projects. Through our partnership with Impact Matters, we find nonprofit organizations that need our help. Donating in-kind services, we use our expertise and skills to support them in reaching their goals. An example is our collaboration with the Bas van de Goor foundation. Their mission is to improve the quality of life of diabetes patients by stimulating an active lifestyle. We help them design the right strategy.
How did you get to visit Life Terra?
IG&H launched a contest, asking us to guess the number of trees we’re planting in Portugal. The prize: a trip to help plant the trees. My estimate came closest to the actual number, so I was one of the lucky ones: I got to pack my bags and go visit Portugal.
To keep providing a great place to work and become an even better one, it’s crucial for us to continue to learn and improve. We constantly aim to raise the bar and challenge ourselves. Currently, we want to tackle the following challenges:
1. Gender diversity in the partner team.2. Shaping collaboration between the board and ‘The Voice.’3. Better retention of female talent.4. Accessibility of people & culture programs to all.
When it comes to diversity, there’s room for improvement. The fact that we’re open to everyone is not sufficiently reflected in our workforce — especially not in leading positions. Encouraged by our partners and directors, all employees work together to create more diversity in the workplace. Not only by raising awareness and reducing our biases, but also by focusing on diversity in the hiring process.
